Yoghurt - Too Good to be True?

There’s no doubt that yoghurt is one of the healthiest foods out there. It has been a part of the human diet for a very long time and for many good reasons. Different cultures around the world call it by varying names, however, the yoghurt that we know today is simply fermented milk that has been acidified with well-defined and viable bacteria.
So what are the benefits of eating yoghurt?

Health Benefits Of Yoghurt

1. Much Easier To Digest Than Milk
The good news is that if you have difficulty digesting dairy there may be some benefit to be gained in switching to yoghurt. It has all the goodness of milk and then some but you can eat it with less chance of it upsetting your stomach. Yoghurt contains enzymes such as beta-galactosidase, which helps in the process of lactose absorption in your stomach. Of course if you are diagnosed as lactose intolerant you will need to find a lactose free version, but fortunately these are available in most supermarkets nowadays.

2. Offers Better Colon Health
The colon in your body is responsible for absorption of minerals and vitamins. The good bacteria that are present in your colon help in digesting the fibre present in foods so that the digestive process can be completed.

It has been reported that yoghurt contains two of the most beneficial bacteria for human beings, namely:
  • Lactobacillus bulgaricus
  • Streptococcus thermophilus
Both of the above-mentioned bacteria help in maintaining good colon health in your body. These bacteria also prevent the conversion of bile into carcinogenic bile inside your colon, which keeps the bowel movements function healthily.

3. Enhances Immunity Inside Your Body
Immunity is an essential part of the protection process  for any kind of living organism. Stronger immunity helps your body ward off illness and disease more easily. And since the human body is incredibly complex the process for delivering enhanced immunity is complex too, and well beyond the scope of this article. But you don't need necessarily need sophisticated methods in order to achieve a heightened immune system. A great way to boost your well being is to  add yoghurt to your daily diet, creating a habit that will benefit you for a lifetime. It has been reported that adding yoghurt  every day can help to boost the creation of white blood cells in your body, which are essential in the fight against pathogens.

4. Heals  Intestinal Infections
It's all about gut flora - encouraging 'good bacteria' and banishing the 'bad' ones.  Different types of food feed different types of bacteria so it's important to have a diet that causes the right types of bacteria to flourish in your gut.  These help to digest food correctly, minimise gut infections, regulate the bowels and contribute to overall health and well being.

At Wholefarm we believe in good food and good times.  Our frozen yoghurt contains many of the benefits of standard yoghurt, and while we don't claim it to be a wonder food, it is a great, guilt free tasty treat that you can enjoy in moderation without feeling bad about it!  Our products can also be modified to contain different strains of beneficial bacteria, dietary fibre and colostrum to create a powerful health combination.

If you want to know more about what yoghurt, beneficial bacteria and the correct dietary fibre can do for you , don’t hesitate to get in touch with our experts.
